Description
The purpose of this guideline is to provide evidence-based clinical guidance for neuroscience nurses caring for patients of any age who experience seizures or are diagnosed with epilepsy. Topics include epidemiology, pathophysiology, and etiology (including genetic factors), types and classifications of seizures and epilepsy, clinical manifestations, diagnostic evaluation, and treatment. The scope includes special considerations for women with epilepsy, comorbid conditions, quality-of-life issues, self-management strategies, and nonepileptic events. Nursing assessments and interventions and patient/family education topics are included in the relevant sections.
The goal of this guideline is to promote standardized, consistent, current, and evidence-based care of patients with seizures and epilepsy.
